Congratulations to all civil partnerships over the last 5 years
Terri and John in Camden, July 2020 after 48 years together. ‘During Covid, so very simple, just two witnesses and masks worn at the Camden Town Hall. Celebrated afterwards at home.’
Mike and Lizzie in Portree, Isle of Skye in July 2021 just after mixed-sex cps became legal in Scotland. Emergency witnesses – ‘two lovely local ladies’ were found on a local fb group as their chosen ones were ill on the day.
Barbara and Trevor in Bradford on Avon were able to register their CP on the last working day before lockdown was announced after 40 years together. ‘We were so lucky and still are!’
Sarah and Graham in Wandsworth – with their three adult children who were their witnesses. Civilly Partnered in February 2020 after 43 years, 3 children and 2 mortgages!
Diane and Colin – ‘After living together for 25 years and both having unhappy marriages we were so pleased that we were at last able to put our relationship on a proper legal footing.’
Chris and Steff in in Warwick, May 2024 after 42 years together. Their sons acted as witnesses. Celebrations after with close friends, family and ‘much live music’.
Rosie and Mike in Gloucester gave notice the day lockdown was announced and finally registerd their CP in September 2020 after 2 lockdown cancellations! Celebrated with 1M long pizza between them!
Sharon and Paul, August 2020 in Aldershot after 10 years together. Paul sadly died in 2024 from cancer. Sharon tells us ‘But I’d never have been without him, however short our life together was destined to be.’
Jemma and Andy were the first couple in Worcester to be civilly partnered in January 2020. ‘It was just the two of us and two friends as our witnesses. It was the right way for us to celebrate our partnership of over 20 years.’
Phil and Sue registered their CP in Barry on 31st Dec 2019 and have been together since 1978, taking a new joint surname Sky in 1982 when their first child was born. Will be celebrating on Penarth Prom with a drink!
Arij and Colm registered their CP after 11 years together in Autumn 2020 as soon as the first lockdown eased. They felt a traditional marriage ‘wouldn’t represent who we are or our respective families and their beliefs.’
Truran and Susie registered their civil partnership in Poole on 2
nd
January 2020 after 37 years of being together. Celebrations were held with two very good friends as witnesses and fish and chips afterwards!
Debbie and Martin celebrate with ECP on 31st Dec with this year being like ours their 5th anniversary. First in their region to have a mixed-sex civil partnership & it was reported on in the local paper.
Sarah and Rob registered their CP in 2021 after 20 years together. 3rd time lucky after covid lockdown cancellations! Guests all still wearing masks!
Jody, Chris (& daughter Audrey) registered their CP in October 2023 after 20 years together. They celebrated with a meal with close family followed by a road-trip to Phantasia land in Germany.
Llinos and Mark registered their CP 28 years after getting together a year late due to Covid. With only 2 witnesses and LOT of hand sanitiser involved they describe the day as ‘quirky but wonderful’ & their ‘sanitised’ registration.
Caren and Roy in Southampton registered their CP in August 2024 after 12 years together. They had statutory registration with 2 witnesses and celebrated with lunch beforehand for ‘a relaxed lovely day’.
Jane and Rob: ‘After living together for over 20 years, not even Covid restrictions nor torrential August rain was going to stop us!’
Rebecca Steinfeld and Charles Keidan – having won their case at the Supreme Court and championed the cause through a long parliamentary bill, finally able to have a civil partnership at Chelsea Town Hall 31st December 2019
ECP Chair Martin Loat and partner Claire Beale registered their partnership in the Isle of Man in 2016, meaning that the relationship became a legal entity in England & Wales on December 2nd 2019.
Former ECP chair Fiona Millar and Alastair Campbell registered their civil partnership after 42 years together. Lockdown restrictions meant a small family only registration.
Kate and Jamie, Civil partnered 26.05.23. ‘Neither of us wanted to be “wife” or “husband”, we wanted something that recognized what we are: partners. After being together for 17 years, this really feels right for us.’
